I am an educator that strives to facilitate and foster a laboratory environment for students to experience the holistic entity of dance and movement, while simultaneously giving them a strong foundation in technique and a reverence for their bodies’ capacities. On a functional level, I can provide students with skills and tools to access healthy and joyful relationships to movement through mobility, stability, kinesthetic awareness, dynamics, effort, subtlety, strength, musicality, and rhythm.
I see dance as an opportunity to witness and participate in an atmosphere that is a microcosm of contemporary social and cultural society. Whether performing/practicing solo or in a large ensemble, dance provides for exploration and investigation of language, expression, intention, inquiry, protest, problem-solving, conflict resolution, integrity, collaboration, ambition, failure, resilience, mastery, execution of purpose, pride, satisfaction, and reflection.
I have an intrinsic commitment to model inclusivity, passion, empathy, community and integrity with all students that I mentor and teach, regardless of levels and ability. I have had the spectacular opportunity to develop movement pedagogy and programs that encourage and promote excellence with students from differing demographics, abilities, politics, budgets and endless other circumstances within Arts Departments, with private clients and in after-school programs. Joining a Performing Arts Department, at this particular moment in history, would allow me the great honor of positively contributing to this generation of people who will face the unique task of healing and thriving after spending a year in isolation. I firmly believe that giving students a chance to connect to their somatic, visceral, and physical selves, through dance and movement increases their creative and exploratory capacity in all areas of their lives by connecting their intellectual minds with their physical form.
